Monogram: Who We Are & Why We Do What We Do

A lot has changed in the student loan industry over the past thirty years, yet the people of Monogram have been a constant. Throughout every change, we’ve been there to help banks, credit unions, affinity organizations, families, and financial aid officers effectively evolve to meet new industry regulations and customer expectations.

Today, we’re excited to be entering our next chapter as Monogram.

Who is Monogram?

Monogram is dedicated to making financial resources available for students and their families so they can pursue their higher education goals. We do this by working closely with financial institutions, credit unions, and affiliate groups to develop customized private student loan products.

This means we help our partners expand their lending portfolio with data-driven products and services. We also facilitate private student loans for partners’ members or customers, and can even help partners with portfolio valuation if they are looking to sell a portfolio and create liquidity.

Monogram is unlike any others in the industry. In fact, we have three primary differentiators:

  • Deep industry knowledge and expertise. We have decades of experience and more than 30 years of industry data, which has allowed us to facilitate more than $30B in private student loans to date. We manage every aspect of risk in a student loan program, from credit risk to regulatory and compliance risk.

  • Collaborative and flexible approach. No two customers are exactly the same, and the same applies to different bank branches and affiliate groups. We work with our partners to help them find the right offering that meets the unique needs of their customers or members. We also offer a referral program that enables our partners to generate fee-based revenue without needing to carry student loans on their balance sheets.

  • Data-driven insights. We couple the latest industry and market information with our proprietary data to provide customizable student loan products that complement our partners’ current product offerings and diversify their lending portfolios. Unlike other private student loan providers, we leverage data science and industry expertise to look beyond FICO scores to help our partners effectively price loans and manage risk.

Our mission

This is a critical time in the private student loan space. Larger lenders are exiting the industry, product innovation has slowed, and schools and students have fewer options than ever. The cost of college continues to rise — with more and more universities and colleges expected to soon begin charging $100,000 per year — yet financial aid and other means of paying for college are not always enough.

We aim to change the dynamic of the traditional private student loan with our data, expertise and collaborative approach.

In our mission to help students pursue their higher education goals, we work closely with potential lending partners to create the necessary loan products. We also collaborate with schools and their financial aid officers to ensure students are aware of their funding options, and that they are selecting the one that makes the most sense for them.

At the end of the day, we aim to empower students to access the funds they need to invest in their future and close the gap between the cost of college and other financial assistance.

We also help our partners enhance their product suite to attract and retain more customers, generate fee-based revenue, and harness the significant market opportunity within this growing asset class.

Why work with us?

Monogram has powered private student loans longer than anyone in the industry. With this tenure comes an invaluable depth of experience, including the understanding that every partner’s situation is unique.

This is why we take a flexible approach to our program design and collaboration. We design private student loan programs by balancing our partner’s business objectives with the needs of schools and families.

We take this same collaborative approach with schools, specifically within financial aid offices. We actively listen to their challenges and needs, and continuously provide new and refreshed resources for administrators and their students to better understand the private student loan industry.

We are data-driven, seasoned, trusted, and collaborative. We are Monogram.

If you’re looking to expand your portfolio, offer private student loans to your members or customers, or even sell your student loan portfolio, we can help.
